I just wanted to chime in to show our differences looking at MM & Glamazon's post.  I am 5'8" and I weighed 194.8 this morning and I wear 12's and 14's.

People are so worried about what they eat between Christmas and the New Year, but they really should be worried about what they eat between the New Year and Christmas. ~Author Unknown

There was a post that someone did and they put in an article that said that Black women do not lose the weight like "our lighter counter parts". I think it had to do with losing as much of their excess body weight as white women, but I don't really think black women want to lose as much. At least I don't. That being said, I do see our women losing their weight quickly and keeping it off. I'm just not one of those women.

I also agree.

We always weigh more,  even at the same height & size.

I'm 5'8, currently weigh 206 and wear mostly size 14 and a few 12's.  I lost my weight right at the same pace as those of several races (all within my Doc's support group, all of us having had RNY) near the same time.

Everyone's body will do it's own thing regarding speed of loss (given the person is compliant with the eating/water/supplements/exercise plan), loose skin, level of satisfaction with overall results.

Don't worry!  Plan in advance what you will eat and how you will schedule water, supplements and exercise into your daily life so that you can better enjoy the ride without the stress of it.  You will do great!

Thanks for the replies.  Very interesting and many good points.  My surgeon days that my goal weight should be between 155-160.  I'm 5 '7' and currently weigh 330 I think I would look like a crack head at that weight but  guess time will tell.  Thanks again!

Black folks have higher bone density and build muscle at a faster rate.  Plus we don't want to be on the low end of the weight range for our height.  When I went for my 6 month check up the excercise physiologist made a comment about my legs.  She said that their patients are usually still jiggly at 6 months out.  My legs are firm and well toned and I don't work out anywhere near the level as some of the posters do on the VSG forum.
